Richard T. Burgess, 63, of Sanford, died in Scarborough on April 4, 2021.
Richard was born in Springvale on April 30, 1958. He grew up in Sanford where he attended local schools. Following school he served in the U.S. Army. During his working life he was employed doing roofing, siding and carpentry work. In 1982 he married Ida Dehetre and together they shared 37 years of marriage until her death in 2020.
Richard enjoyed working on projects at home and watching sports. He was a fan of the Boston Red Sox, the New England Patriots and the Dallas Cowboys. He liked sitting outside and enjoying nice weather, visiting the beach, buying scratch tickets and watching westerns, especially the Virginian. One of Richard's favorite things to do was to go on rides and outings with his friend Ray Allain. He will be dearly missed.
Richard is survived by his best friend, Ray Allain of Sanford.
A graveside service for Richard and his wife Ida will be held at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, June 16th at the Southern Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery located on Stanley Road in Springvale. Military honors for Richard and burial for Richard and Ida will follow.
Arrangements are under the direction of Black Funeral Homes and Cremation Service, Sanford-Springvale.
