Richard Bumford

Richard W. Bumford, 61, of Lebanon, died on Wednesday, March 2, 2011 at Goodall Hospital in Sanford.Richard was born in Sanford on September 30, 1949 to Wesley and Charlotte (Wallingford) Bumford and attended local schools, graduating from Sanford High School in 1967. After high school Richard entered the military with his cousin and friend, Brian Wallingford and served in Vietnam. After leaving the service, he began working for Tilcon/Pike Industries and stayed there for 31 years until his retirement.Richard enjoyed hunting, fishing, farming, snowmobiling and 4-wheeling. He also enjoyed going ice fishing with his buddy, Gil Gerrish. He enjoyed tractor pulling and was a long time member of the Southern Maine Antique Tractor Club along with his cousin, Frank Bumford. He was a former volunteer fire fighter for the Lebanon Fire Department and was a member of the Masons and the Kora Temple Shrine. Richard will be remembered as a fun-loving and caring man and will be dearly missed by his family and friends.Richard was predeceased by his parents.Surviving are his wife, Diane Bumford of Lebanon; two stepsons, Jason Howgate and his wife Ann of Lebanon and Kurt Howgate and his companion Katrina of Shapleigh; a sister, Sharon Zampieri and her companion Robert of Wolfeboro, NH; a nephew, Michael P. Zampieri and his companion Lynda of New Durham, NH; a granddaughter, Heather Howgate of Baldwin and many cousins in the Bumford, Wallingford and Gerrish families.Visitation will be from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM with a funeral service following at 12:00 PM on Tuesday, March 8th at the Carll-Heald & Black Funeral Home, 580 Main Street in Springvale.
