Richard “Ricky” Scott Bernard, 47, of Limerick, died unexpectedly in Gorham on September 15, 2022, as a result of injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident.
Ricky was born in Portland, Maine on April 27, 1975. He grew up in Sanford where he attended local schools and graduated from Sanford High School. He had been employed for many years as an auto mechanic at JLP Services in South Portland.
Ricky loved to ride four wheelers and side by sides. He could take apart and put together pretty much anything that was mechanical and had most recently been working on restoring a 1959 Pontiac Catalina with his brother Brian and his sons Richard and Brian. He had also been working on building a shed to store their four wheelers with his youngest sons, Alex and Austin.
Whenever somebody needed a hand, they could always count on Ricky to be there to help. He loved his family unconditionally and never left the house without saying “I love you.” He was famous for his quirky comments and always had an answer for any question, even if it wasn’t correct. Ricky will be remembered as a man with a great sense of humor who loved spending time with his family. He will be dearly missed by all his family and friends.
Ricky was predeceased by his brother, Machel A. Bernard and his special grandmother, Grammy B.
Surviving are his wife, Katie Bernard of Limerick; six children, Richard Bernard, Jr., Brian A. Bernard, Alyssa Bernard, Katie Blackwell, Alex Bernard and Austin Bernard; his parents, Archer and Melodie Bernard of Sanford; his siblings, Brian C. Bernard, Virginia Hersom, Julie Murtinger, Keith A. Bernard and Archer M. Bernard and many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be help at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, September 21st at Riverside Cemetery located on Riverbank Court in Springvale.
Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider sending a memorial contribution to Richard’s family to help them during this difficult time.

Ricky was always happy. I love you Rick 😗, I hope you know that. I’m so sorry this happened to you. 😭 Rest in peace 😇as you wait patiently for Katie to join you. It will be a long wait because she has your boys to raise into fine young men. Katie is strong and she will pull through this with some time,💯 but you already know this I’m sure. I just wish I could say good bye and tell you I love you. ❤️🤗😗
Love Always and Forever,
Your favorite sister,

4 wheeling, working on cars, spending time with his wife and boys
I’m proud of you. I never really told you that before. I guess I have been lost in my own world for a long time
He could always make u laugh
He wasn’t scared of anything. If u told him he couldn’t do something, he would do it. At least try to do it
How much he changed his life around for the better. If Ricky could do it, anyone can.
Every life taken, a new life begins
My love 💓 with all my heart please watch over me and your babies
