Westbrook – Richard A. Carrier, 74, died peacefully in his sleep on Sunday, July 5, 2026, after a long illness in South Portland. The son of the late J. Robert and Marie Therese (Arsenault) Carrier of Bridge Street, Westbrook, “Dickie” was born in Portland on August 30, 1951.

He attended St. Hyacinth School in Westbrook and graduated from Cheverus High School in Portland. He studied electrical technology at Southern Maine Vocational Institute in South Portland, then worked for over 25 years at the Westbrook S.D. Warren/Sappi paper mill, primarily in the electrical department.

A friendly and outgoing social being, Dickie loved hunting, bowling, boating, fishing, and being on the water; taking friends on boat rides and waterskiing. In more recent years, he became the owner of the Carrier family seasonal property on Little Sebago at Mt. Hunger Shores in Windham, where he had spent many hours since boyhood and developed his love for the lake. In the winter he would often rent property on Pettingill Pond. Dick also delighted in socializing with his longtime friends at the Eagles Westbrook #2977 club.

He was predeceased by his older brother Robert J. Carrier. Dick is survived by his sons, Daniel C. Carrier of Fort Kent and Dennis R. Carrier of Frenchville; grandson, Brody Carrier; sister, Michele T. Coughlin and her husband David of Bedford, NH; brother, Ronald H. Carrier and his wife Lori of Port St. Lucie, FL; nephews and nieces, David Carrier of Caribou, Joseph Carrier of South Windham, Thomas Kierstead of North Windham, Sarah Kierstead of Boston and Juliette Carrier of Port St. Lucie; longtime companion, Karen Higgins of South Portland.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Pinnacle Nursing Home in South Portland and to the staff of Compassus Hospice Care for the care they provided Dick during the final months of his life.

A private burial service will be held at St. Hyacinth Cemetery at a later date.
