Rene J. Vezina

Rene Joseph Vezina, 80 years old, of Springvale, Maine passed away surrounded by family on Monday, June 19, 2023.

With Verna, his wife of 60 years, he created the type of family he always deserved; a loving, doting, and supportive one that he cherished more than anything. Rene served his community as a mechanic for 40 years, and even after retirement, continued to provide for the town as a crossing guard in Sanford, Maine.

In his downtime, Rene continued to work in and around his home on all sorts of projects. From woodworking in his garage where he also created his own designs, to landscaping, he always enjoyed doing something that would be helpful. “The Gadget Guru” was also an avid reader of many books, and spent time working out at the YMCA, which in turn dubbed him “the most fit 80-year-old” the hospital staff had ever seen. He fought and beat cancer but at last had to succumb to the complications following. Rene was a quick witted, and kind, gentle soul that had a soft spot for his family and dogs, especially his grandogger Ellah.

He is survived by his wife Verna, his son Derrick and his wife Laurie Vezina of Dayton, his son Kevin and his wife Jennifer Vezina of Springvale, Rene went by “Pepere” and “Papa” to his grandchildren; Derrick and Laurie’s children Deanna Vezina, Derrill Vezina and wife Cassie, Jeff Auger and his wife Fran, Bethany Dery, and Kevin and Jennifer’s children Mitchell Vezina, and soon to be wed Paige Vezina with her fiancé Adam Edmunds. Rene also has a handful of great-grandchildren; Marcus, Grace, Weston, Beau, And Amelia.

If grief is misplaced love, we are so lucky to have loved and now grieve such a wonderful man. There will be a private ceremony for his family.

Arrangements are under the direction of Black Funeral Homes and Cremation Service, Sanford-Springvale.

Guestbook

  1. Rene was a great friend to my Dad, Chuck. So thankful they maintained their friendship through the years after working at the Ford garage together. Rene would pick him up regularly for coffee after my Dad’s driving days were done!

  2. My dear Verna and family, so many years ago , you and Rene became my Brother and Sister -in-law. We have made so many happy memories together which i cherish. My heart breaks over Rene’s passing but I know that Jesus welcomed him home with his arms wide open. RIP. Our last words to each other…was I love you. 💕. Sandie Chasse Williams

  3. Verna and family, I just learned of Rene’s passing. I feel so sad for all of you. I typed a message to you last night but apparently forgot to save it because today I can’t find it. If it is somewhere, please forgive me if I’m repeating myself. Rene was a wonderful person that I had the pleasure of knowing many years ago. Hard to believe that was 60 years ago and I remember it we’ll because I was a bridesmaid in your wedding party. You were lucky to have him all these years. I always thought of you guys every time I would drive by your house. You were soul mates for sure and I know he will be missed. Sending loving thoughts and prayers.
