Raymond Wakefield Jr., age 77, passed away on June 17, 2026, leaving behind an unbroken legacy of quiet strength, fierce loyalty, and deep integrity.
Raymond was a man of few words, a true loner who found peace in solitude, but his actions and observations spoke volumes. He faced more than his fair share of undeserved tragedy in this life, yet he bore it all with a quiet dignity. He was a man who would never complain or acknowledge his hardships, choosing instead to carry his burdens in silence through it all.
Though he generally kept to himself, he had a deeply thoughtful heart. He never forgot to send birthday cards or holiday greetings to distant relatives, quietly gave to charity, and shared a soft affection for animals, children, and the peaceful time he spent gardening. He was a deeply intelligent, hard-working man who was exceptionally skilled with his hands. He was honest to a fault and possessed a legendary, effortless dry wit. He never tried to be funny, but he had a rare way with words—able to perfectly sum up any situation in just a few unforgettable, no-nonsense syllables.
While he ordinarily preferred his own company, his true colors shone brightest whenever someone he loved was in trouble. He would instantly step out of his solitude to defend, support, and protect his people. He had the backs of those nearest to him no matter what. He was loyal to his core.
In his youth, he served in the U.S. Marine Corps. He lived his life with that same quiet grit and independence, never boasting or seeking the spotlight for his accomplishments.
Raymond married his wife, Sharon, in 1980 and shared 34 years of marriage with her until she was suddenly taken by illness in 2014. True to his loyal nature, he never dated or remarried, spending the next 12 years remaining entirely single until his own passing. He was also preceded in death by his son, Raymond, who was suddenly and tragically taken from him in 1999.
