Raymond L. Emmons Sr., 71 years old, of Lyman, ME died Sunday morning June 13, 2004 at the H.D. Goodall Hospital in Sanford.Mr. Emmons was born on August 25, 1932 in Waterboro, ME. He was the son of Lester and Edna Day Emmons. At the age of 19 Mr. Emmons enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and proudly served his country from 1951 to 1955. Mr. Emmons had spent parts of his life in Texas, California, and Connecticut before returning home to Maine. For a while he worked for Pratt & Whitney, the Waterboro Leather Mill, Prime Tanning, and eventually retired from Rich's Store as a security guard.Hardworking, humorous, caring, and community oriented are just a few words and phrases that could describe Mr. Emmons. He loved to tend to his garden and fruit trees, go fishing, hunting, or just spend time outdoors. Mr. Emmons served the people of Waterboro as Fire Chief in 1969, and 1977 while a member of the Fire Department. He coached Little League baseball and was an active member of the community for many years.Mr. Emmons is preceded in death by a son Michael Emmons.Surviving is his wife of 52 years Freda (Flood) Emmons of Lyman, ME, two daughters; Cinda Emmons-Grove of Alfred, ME, Debra Driscoll of Lyman, ME, Two sons; Raymond and Mary Emmons Jr. of Lyman, ME, Dwight and Cindy Emmons of Sanford; a sister, Beverly Colby of CT; an Aunt and Uncle, Diane and Horace Emmons of NY, 11 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.A period of visitation will be held on Thursday, June 17, 2004 from 5 PM to 8 PM at the Heald Funeral Home, 580 Main St., Springvale, ME. On Friday June 18, 2004 please meet the family for a 10:30 AM graveside service at the Chadbourne Cemetery in Lyman, ME.For those that desire memorials may be made in Mr. Emmons name to the Waterboro Fire & Rescue, P.O.
