Raymond J. Beauchesne, 72, of Sanford, died September 4 at the Newton Center in Sanford after an illness of several months.He was born in Sanford on September 6, 1932, a son of George and Marie Louise (Gagne) Beauchesne, and attended local schools.He served with the US Army in Germany during the Korean Conflict.He was employed for over 20 years with Guillemette Brothers in Sanford and then as a crane operator at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard retiring in 1987. In his retirement he drove a bus for York County Community Action.An avid sports fan, he was a season ticket holder and attended all home and away games of the Sanford Mainers. He was a New England Patriots fan, and a Boston Red Sox fan. His son recalled how his father particularly enjoyed a trip he took with him and several other friends in a limousine last fall to a playoff game at Fenway Park when Mr. Beauchesne's favorite player David Ortiz hit a walk-off home run against the Anaheim Angels to end the series. He took great pleasure in that and in the Red Sox' World Series championship. He was also active in youth sports. He was an early volunteer for the former Sanford Midget Football Program (now SSYAA.) He also helped to install the lights at both Goodall Park and at Cobb Stadium. He was also an avid bowler and participated in several local leagues. His favorite pastimes were to cut and stack firewood and to spend time with his grandchildren. He tried to make it a point every day to see them off the school bus in the afternoon.He was a member of the Knights of Columbus in Sanford and of the Lafayette Social Club.His wife, the former Muriel Levasseur, died in 1991.Survivors include his son, Mark Beauchesne, his wife Laura and their children Abby and Madeline of Shapleigh, his dear friend Doris McCallum of Sanford, and several nieces and nephews.Visiting hours will be held on Thursday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at the Lafrance-Lambert & Black Funeral Home, 29 Winter Street, Sanford. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday at 11 AM in Holy Family Church.
