Ralph B. Spurr

Shapleigh, MaineRalph B. Spurr, Sr. 85, of Shapleigh, Maine died Thursday May 30, 2002 at his residence in Shapleigh.He was born in Lynn, MA., on September 25, 1916, he was the son of Ethel (Moody) Spurr, and was a graduate of Lynn High School.Mr. Spurr worked for A & P Supermarket for over 50 years. He started out as a shelf stocker and retired in the early 1980's as a district manager of maintenance.After he retired from A & P he worked three years for the Masconemt Regional High School in Topsfield, MA.Mr. And Mrs. Spurr have owed their property on Lower Mousam for over 50 years, and was a member of The Mousam Lake Association for 30-40 years.Mr. Spurr has been a member of AARP since 1984. At first he was active in a general way in the organization, serving on committee's. He was then elected to The Board of Directors serving for 12 years. Approximately 10 years ago he was elected to serve as Chairman of the Nominating Committee. He assisted with the many day and overnight trips.About ten years ago Ralph won an AARP award. He was given a certificate of appreciation for the volunteer activity in the community and his volunteer activities in The Mousam Valley Chapter of AARP.He was a member of The First Baptist Church of Springvale.M. Spurr was involved with the bowling league at Bowlorama for many many years.He is survived by his wife of 63 years Jessie (Livermore) Spurr of Shapleigh; sons Ernest W. Spurr of Colorado Springs, CO., Lawrence C. Spurr of Shapleigh and Ralph B. Spurr, JR., of Georgetown, MA; eight grandchildren, four great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.A memorial service will be held on Wednesday June 5, 2002 at 1:00 PM at Heald Funeral Home 580 Main Street Springvale, Maine.
