Ralph C. Smith

Ralph C. Smith, 88, of Sanford, Maine, Died July 14, 2002 at The Goodall Hospital in Sanford.He was born in Standish, Maine on June 5, 1914. He was the son of Llewellyn C. and Florence A. (Whitney) Smith and was a graduate of Standish High School.Mr. Smith's working career started in The Goodall-Sanford Mills. He then went to work at The South Portland Shipyard. He was a lumberman for over 25 years. Mr. Smith continued his career for Robert's Construction in Alfred for 4 years and retired after 8 years with The Sanford Highway Department.He enjoyed hunting, fishing and he especially loved his hunting dogs.He is survived by his five daughters Leah Reilly of Pawtucket, RI, Doris Dilworth and her husband Robert "Lex" of Gum Spring, Virginia, Roberta Smith of Sanford, Maine, Luella Anderson of Rochester, NH and Helen Sargent and her husband "Perley"of Sanford, Maine; sisters Vera Stevens of Standish, Phyllis Harmon of Standish and Virginia Luebbert of Buxton; a brother Russell Smith of Standish. He is also survived by 8 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren.Mr. Smith was predeceased by his wife Beatrice and his son Ralph C. Jr. Relatives and friends may call on Tuesday from 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM & 6:00 PM -8:00 PM at Heald Funeral Home 580 Main Street, Springvale, Maine, where a funeral will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday.
