Goodwin, 87, of Sanford, died February 5, 2002 at The Goodall Hospital, Sanford.He was born in Shapleigh on September 22, 1914, he was the son of Ralph E. and Ethel M Bacon Goodwin and attended the old Shapleigh High School (which is now Town Hall), and finished his education at Sanford High SchoolHe served in The U.S. Navy during WWII.Mr. Goodwin worked for 9 years at the former Goodall/Sanford Textile Mills. He then worked as a machinist for 9 years at the Portsmouth Navel Shipyard. Mr. Goodwin worked as a letter carrier for the Town of Sanford for 21 years, retiring in 1980. He was a member and Past President of the Sanford Branch of The National Association of Letter Carriers. He was a member, deacon and Sunday school teacher at The 1st Baptist Church of Sanford. Mr. Goodwin was a member and vice president (1958) of The York County Baptist Laymen. Mr. Goodwin was a former Scout Master and active committee man, with continuous service since 1943 with troop # 317, which has been sponsored by The First Baptist Church in Sanford for 87 years.. He was the recipient of The Good Shepard Scouting Award as well as The Silver Beaver Award, the highest council award. He was a member of the Boy Scouts of America Council and at the district level. In 1988 he was the Assistant District Commissioner.Mr. Goodwin was a 50 plus year member, Past Master and present Treasurer of The Lebanon Grange. He was a member of The York Pamona, State and National Grange. He was a member of The Sanford Order of The Elks where he was honored one year for his contribution to Sanford youths.Mr. Goodwin was predeceased by his wife Mildred D. Goodwin who died in 1988. He was also predeceased by his daughters Norma Shirley and Mary Louise.He is survived by his sister Marion L. Goodwin of Asbury Park, NJ.Relatives and friends may call on Thursday from 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM & 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM at Heald Funeral Home 580 Main Street, Springvale, Maine, where a funeral will be held on Friday at 11:00 AM.
