SANFORD - Paul H. Rivard, 88, of Sanford, passed away on Tuesday, October 19, 2010 at the H.D. Goodall Hospital in Sanford. He was born in Sanford on August 2, 1922, a son of the late Henri and Laura (Couturier) Rivard. He served proudly in the Construction Battalion in the Philippines during WWII. In 1971 Paul retired after 28 years of service from the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard.A lifelong communicant of Notre Dame Parish he was a member of the choir.He was involved extensively in restoring and collecting antique cars. He served as past president of the (MOALS). He enjoyed gardening and his greatest joy was working alongside his brothers, considering himself the "Boss" as he was the oldest.He is predeceased by his wife of 65 years, Claire (Demers) Rivard, who passed away in 2008.He is survived by two sons, Paul E. Rivard and his wife, Suk Hi of North Andover, MA, Donald A. Rivard and his wife, Regina of Franklin, ME; four grandchildren, Sonya Benham and her husband, Sean of Chicago, IL, Christopher Rivard and his wife, Sarah of Lowell, MA, Andre Rivard and his wife, Amy of Berwick, Gabriel Rivard and his wife, Chantal Elizabeth of Charlottesville, VA; five great grandsons; his brothers, Gerald Rivard and his wife, Theresa of Springvale, Urbain Rivard and his wife, Betty of Sanford, Louis Rivard and his wife, Simone of Sanford, Ronald Rivard and his wife, Rita of Shapleigh, his sisters, Theresa Ouellette of Sanford, Mary Ann Theriault and her husband, Leland of Sanford, Mary Jane Brochu and her husband, Roger of Sanford and Margaret LaChance and her husband, Paul of Springvale, one brother in law, Edmund Demers of Farmington, NH, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.Visiting hours will be on Friday from 2 to 4 & 6 to 8PM at the Lafrance-Lambert & Black Funeral Home, 29 Winter Street, Sanford. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 10AM at St. Therese of Lisieux Parish, Notre Dame Church in Springvale.
