Paul R. Gendreau Sr, age 88, of Sanford passed away at home on Friday, February 9, 2024.
He was the husband of Bertha Duchette Gendreau, a well-known plumber in the York County area, and former President / Owner of Gendreau Plumbing and Heating.
Paul was born in Sanford ME. on January 6, 1936, the son of the late Maurice Gendreau and Angeline (Duchette) Gendreau. He graduated from St. Ignatius High School in Sanford and then entered the U.S. Air Force in 1955.
Following his service in the U.S. Air Force, he was employed as a plumber by local companies and eventually founded Gendreau Plumbing and Heating. As a Master Plumber, he was regarded as a highly exceptional craftsman by those he served and worked with. Paul enjoyed hunting and fishing for most of his life. In later years, he became a fan of the New York Yankees, and insisted on joyfully expressing his point of view to Boston Red Sox fans.
He is predeceased by his parents, his wife Bertha, his siblings, Bernadette M. Michaud, Gerard Gendreau, Jacqueline G. Lamontagne, and Maurice Gendreau.
Survivors include his son Paul R. Gendreau Jr. and his wife Nancy of Sanford, daughters, Karen A. Hulsey and her husband David of Smyrna, TN, and Brenda L. Durant and her husband Jay of Sanford, seven grandchildren, and 18 great grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, February 23, 2024 at 10:30 A.M. at St. Therese of Lisieux Parish, Holy Family Church, 66 North Ave, Sanford, followed by interment at Southern Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 83 Stanley Rd., Springvale.
