Paul F. Ferris, 82, of Golden Era Circle, Alfred, died peacefully, Sunday, June 6, 2004 at Goodall Hospital surrounded by his loving family.He was born January 9, 1922 in Alfred a son of Frank W. and Gertrude (Best) McCann and was raised in Worcester, Mass. Paul attended the Boys Trade School for 2 years, learning the masonry trade. Mr. Ferris served four years in the U.S. Army during World War II as a machine gunner serving in Central Europe. He received the Good Conduct Medal, European African Middle Eastern Theater Campaign Ribbon, American Theater Campaign Ribbon and the Victory Medal.Returning from active duty, Mr. Ferris continued his hard work ethics by working in a variety of jobs ranging from selling insurance, driving taxi, auxiliary police officer and as road foreman for the State of Massachusetts. He retired from Hendries Ice Cream of Southborough, Mass. Mr. and Mrs. Ferris called Maine their home in 1986 coming from the Worcester area of Massachusetts. An avid golfer, he loved playing 4 -5 times a week at Dutch Elm Golf Course in Arundel. He was proud of his 4 "Hole in One" trophies. Mr. Ferris was devoted to his wife and family. He had a sense of humor that would liven up any room or occasion. His "one liners" were famous and will be long remembered.Survivors include his loving wife of 18 years, Mary Lou (Gale) Ferris of Alfred; one step-son, Wayne Welton of Oxford, MA; three step-daughters: Martha Moran of Dayville, CT; Jane Wright of Augusta, Georgia and Patricia Russell of Webster, MA. His brother: George Ferris of Nashua, NH and three sisters: Hazel PaPale of Sanford; Rita O'Leary of Worcester, MA and Barbara Bean of Townsend, MA.A brother, Robert Ferris and his sister, Helen Murdock, predeceased him.A Graveside Service will be held Saturday, June 12, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. At Hillside Cemetery, Auburn, Masschusetts.
