Patrick Arnold Michaud, 74, of Sanford, passsed away on Tuesday October 25, 2005 at the Pavilion in Sanford. He was born on February 26, 1931 in Madawaska, Maine a son of Wilfred and Mary Ann (Cyr) Michaud. He was a retired Safety and Health Manager a the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard where he worked for 32 years. After retiring, he founded SAFETY CONSULTING SERVICE of Sanford, Maine. He was also a published writer, and one of the founders and past president of the Acton Ambulance Association, and a member of the Acton Fire Department. He was a former member of the Maine Highway Safety Commission, a member of the York County Prevention of Blindness, and a board Member of the Visiting Nurse Service of Southern Maine. He was also a member of the VFW and DAV, member of the Retired Federal EmployeesMr. Michaud was a graduate of Southern Maine Technical College, a graduate of the University of Maine, graduate study at Indiana University, Georgia State University, and the University of New Hampshire. Mr. Michaud also served as a Petty Officer in the United States Navy during the Korean conflict from 1950 - 54. He was a graduate of Sanford High School. He was listed in Who's Who in 1977. He taught part time for many years at USM evening degree program. He had been the recipient of many Superior Accomplishment Awards, Certificate of Appreciation from OSHA, and a Certificate of Merit from England. He also received a certificate of recognition from the State of Maine Jefferson Awards.He loved the outdoors, said his wife. He had built a year round log home and garage with a workshop on the shores of Wilson Lake in Acton. He enjoyed sailing, skiing, fishing and hunting. The highlights of his sailing was when he was invited to skipper the 'Highland Light', once a training schooner for the United States Academy.He was also a member of the American Industrial Hygiene Association of Maine, and a certified Hazard Control Manager. He was also commissioned by the Governor of Kentucky into the Order of Kentucky Colonels. He is predeceased by his parents, one brother, Rodrique Michaud. He is survived by wife, Pauline (Charpentier) Michaud of Sanford, two sons, Michael Michaud and his wife, Erin of Acton, Martin Michaud and his wife, Mariel of Florida, one daughter, Patrice DiNardo and her husband, Walter of Florida, four stepdaughters, Susan Berard and her husband, Raymond of Sanford, Diane Gosselin and her husband, Eugene of Yarmouth, Brenda Brown and her husband, Alan of Sanford, Karen Salazar and her husband Oscar II of Atlanta, GA, one brother, Richard Michaud and his wife, Annette of Sanford, one sister, Gloria Soucy and her husband, Albert of Fort Kent, three grandchildren, Shelby Michaud, Christopher DiNardo, Melanie Michaud, eight step grandchildren, Stacey Adams, Steven Berard, Ryan Brown, Stefanie Brown, Breanne Gosselin, Olivia Gosselin, Oscar Salazar III, Arianna Salazar.A mass of christian burial will be celebrated on Saturday October 29 at 11am at St. Ignatius Roman Catholic Church in Sanford.
