Patricia S. McFarland

December 22, 1954 ~ June 7, 2026

Born in: Sanford, Maine
Resided in: Sanford, Maine

Patricia Sharon “Patty” McFarland, 71, of Sanford, Maine passed away peacefully at home on June 7, 2026, after a long and courageous battle with Parkinson’s disease.

Patty was born on December 22, 1954, in Sanford, Maine to Theresa (Desrochers) McFarland and Victor McFarland. She attended Sanford public schools and remained a proud lifelong resident to the community she called home.

Patty was known for her incredible work ethic and spent much of her life working in a variety of positions that she genuinely enjoyed. Throughout the years, she worked for Spencer Press and GE and spent much of her career working in local restaurants and bars. During the summer months, she could often be found cleaning hotels and properties at the beach. Patty never shied away from hard work and took pride in everything she did.

Outside of work, Patty enjoyed gambling, searching for yard sales, and spending time with family and friends. Anyone who knew Patty knew there was a good chance she had a scratch ticket in her hand and a hopeful smile on her face. She found joy in life’s simple pleasures and had a spontaneous spirit that allowed her to embrace each day as it came.

More than anything, Patty loved her family. Her greatest happiness came from being a mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She treasured every opportunity to spend time with her children and grandchildren and took immense pride in watching her family grow.

Patty was predeceased by her parents, Theresa (Desrochers) and Victor McFarland, and her beloved son Scott Vermette.

She is survived by the love of her life and devoted partner of 27 years, Gene Hill; her children Sean McFarland and his wife Crystal McFaland of Sanford, Glen McFarland of Rochester, Ryan Vermette of Virginia and Vanessa Hersom and her husband Alex of Shapleigh. She was the proud grandmother of Dalton, Destiny, Rebecca, Lindsey, Jason, Mackenzie, Scarlett, Glen Jr., Isaiah, Issac, Zayden Violet, and one precious granddaughter who is expected to arrive later this year. She was also blessed with two great-grandchildren, Mayson and Naomi.

Patty is further survived by her siblings, Linda, Charlene, and Scott, along with many nieces, nephews, and extended family members, and friends.

A special bond existed between Patty and her sister, Charlene. As lifelong best friends, they spent countless days together raising their children, sharing hobbies, creating memories, and supporting one another through life’s joys and challenges. Their relationship was one of unwavering love, friendship, and devotion.

Patty will be remembered for her strength, resilience, and unwavering love for her family. Despite the many challenges brought on by Parkinson’s disease, she rarely complained and faced each day with determination and grace. She taught those around her the value of perseverance, hard work, and finding joy in everyday moments.

To her family, Patty was more than a mother, grandmother, sister, and partner-she was the heart of countless memories and traditions. Her laughter, generosity, and unconditional love shaped the lives of those who knew her. Her grandchildren were the light of her life, and the love she poured into her family will continue to be let for generations to come. Though she will be deeply missed, her spirit will live on in the stories shared around family tables, the lessons she taught through her actions, and the enduring love she leaves behind.
