Norma A. Westervelt

Norma A. Westervelt, 80, died at her home in Limerick, ME on July 29 after a lingering illness.Born and raised in Hammond, IN, she graduated from Hammond High School, received a bachelor's degree in Home Economics from Purdue University, and a master's degree in Christian Education from New York Theological Seminary. She was married in 1949 to Rowland L. Westervelt, who was soon ordained a Presbyterian minister. Norma and Rowland spent happy years in Presbyterian pastorates in Shawneetown, IL, Newburgh, IN and Londonderry, NH. In 19 1986 they retired to Limerick, MENorma was a poet, and enjoyed singing and participating in choirs of the churches they served. Norma also enjoyed teaching, and taught both Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. She co-founded a church-sponsored kindergarten in Londonderry, and taught there for a number of years. In retirement she served as a hospital volunteer at the H.D. Goodall Hospital in Sanford, ME, where she worked with Lifeline clients.Mourning her passing are her husband Rowland, a son Philip and his wife Laura, daughter Martha and her husband William Faber, daughter Virginia and her husband Peter Frerk, and Norma's brother Robert Abbett and his wife Marilyn and their children Linda and Robert. The Westervelts are also proud grandparents of 7 grandchildren, Joy, Heather, Carolyn, Teresa, William, Amanda, and Abigail, who will miss Norma as well.Norma was a kind and wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother, whose devotion to her family will be deeply missed by her family and many friends.A period of visitation will be held on Friday August 2nd from 3 to 5 PM and 7 to 9 PM at the Heald Funeral Home Limerick Chapel, 25 Sokokis trail, Limerick, ME. A 4:00 PM memorial service will be held on Sunday August 4th at the Londonderry Presbyterian Church. Another memorial service will be held at the Limerick Congregational Church at a later date to be announced.
