Natalie L. Beveridge

Caribou and South Portland, ME - At the age of 99 3/4, Natalie died peacefully at her home on June 5, 2021, in South Portland with family by her side. Natalie was born in Pugwash, Nova Scotia, Canada, on September 21, 1921, the daughter of Harley and Gladys Ditson Lockhart. When she was young, her parents moved to Caribou, Maine, where she grew up and attended schools graduating from Caribou High School in 1939. In 1943, she married her high school sweetheart, Jack R. Beveridge, Sr. They had a long, wonderful and loving life together. They bought their potato farm from Robert Beveridge, Jack’s father, and had a very busy farming life for many years –she worked hard and long hours being a farmer’s wife. She also worked as a bookkeeper for the City of Caribou. After they sold the farm on the Back Presque Isle Road, Jack built a beautiful summer home (Natalie was the interior designer) on Madawaska Lake in which they lived for many years. Subsequently, they became ‘snow birds’ living in Tampa Bay, FL, during the winters. Natalie was an avid ice skater and won an award for such. She enjoyed square dancing, playing cards with friends as well as many outdoor activities such as water skiing, snowmobiling and cross country skiing in the winter; and one of her favorite pastimes-traveling with Jack after retirement. Natalie was a social butterfly and loved everyone. Her love of family was truly inspirational and honored as she so much looked forward to all the family gatherings and seeing all the “kids”. She used that charismatic smile and infectious laughter throughout her life making people smile, making long lasting friends. No matter where she lived and visited, she always ran into many friends from “The County!” After moving to South Portland in 1998, she was very active at Thornton Heights United Methodist Church – charming and loving everyone. One of her favorite things was visiting people who were unable to get to church with her best friend, Debbie Moffit. Natalie was predeceased by her husband, Jack, of 57 years, in 2000; two sisters, Ardes Linscott Burnes and Evelyn Hurlburt; and one brother, Charles Lockhart. Natalie is survived by her son, Jack R Beveridge, Jr, and daughter-in-law, Linda of Glenburn, ME; her daughter, Bonnie A. Beveridge and granddaughter K.C. Salter whom she lived with since 1998. Bonnie and K.C. cared for her in her declining years at their South Portland, ME home. Also surviving her are her other grandchildren, Amy Laplante and husband Troy of Caribou, ME; Jay and Jon Beveridge of Glenburn, ME; Shannon Emery of Bangor, ME; Sean Soucie of Newburgh Center, ME; great grandchildren Austin and Trevor Laplante; Rachel Emery and a great-great grandson Jackson of Bangor. As well as many nieces, nephews, cousins – all who were all very dear to her heart. Natalie’s love, charm, wit, and humor as well as her talent for writing poems is immensely missed by her family and friends. Natalie will forever be loved and missed. There once was a shopper from Caribou. She married Jack Beveridge and had two. She had friends and fun from dawn to dusk and dusk to dawn. This shopper lived to see her great great grandson! She loved her faith, family, friends; to shop and to chat. She loved to volunteer and even to protest; let’s not forget that. Natalie was a classy spitfire that will be missed.
