Muriel Welch Stackpole, 83, died Sunday, September 12, 2004 at the Newton Center in Sanford following a long period of failing health. She was born April 16, 1921 in North Berwick, a daughter of Ovid and Zueda (Snow) Robbins and attended Lebanon Academy. Muriel and her first husband Roger owned and operated for several years, Welch's Dairy on Route 202 in Sanford. She taught the children how to milk the cows and would be up early delivering milk to the many families they served. She also worked in the Goodall-Sanford Textile Mills as a weaver until they ceased operation. From 1964 until 1973, She worked as a nurse's aide at Goodall Hospital. She was a hard worker, one that liked things neat and tidy. She took pride in her home and was an excellent cook. Her specialties were whoopee pies and raisin squares. She also enjoyed handwork and crocheting. Mrs. Stackpole was a member of the Lebanon-North Berwick Baptist Church. She enjoyed square dancing and was an active member of the Riverside Grange 475 and life member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Ruth Chapter in Springvale. Survivors include two sons, Cleveland "Butch" Welch of Lebanon and Wallace Welch of Springvale. One daughter, Ann Torrey of Brattleboro, VT. One brother, L. Ashmont "Obbie" Robbins of No. Berwick. Also, 8 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and 2 great, great grandchildren.She was predeceased by her first husband, Roger E. Welch in 1968 and by her second husband, Charles L. Stackpole in 1996. Also, by a grandson, Keith Ferguson. A Graveside Service will be held on Tuesday, September 14, 2004 at Forest Grove Cemetery in Lebanon At 11:00 am with Rev. David Maguire, officiating. There will be no calling hours.
