Laura, 94 of Shapleigh died Monday March 24th at The Newton Center in Sanford.She was born in Stellarton Nova Scotia, Canada on November 7, 1908, the daughter of Melford and Isabelle (Hood) Johnson.Mildred and her husband Bradford Stone were married in 1929 and they moved to Wakefield, MA. In 1929 they purchased a camp on Square Pond in Shapleigh where they used to spend weekends and summers. The family moved to Shapleigh permanently in 1961.During WWII, Mildred was a member of The AFL-CIO and worked in California at an anchor chair factory as part of the War effort.She was a member of The Shapleigh Corner Baptist Church, member of The Acton-Shapleigh Historical Society and a member of The Order of The Eastern Star.Mildred was very well known for her crafts, knitting and quilting. She was always making items that she would give away or donate to the Church for their fairs.She enjoyed playing bridge with her bridge club and was also know for her wonderful sense of humor. Mildred will be remembered for being a classy old school woman.She is survived by a daughter Sherma Allen and her husband Michael of Shapleigh, ME; grandchildren Myke Allen of Shapleigh and Kelly Burgess and her husband John of Shapleigh; great grandchildren Jasmine Burgess, Haley Allen and Kyle Burgess all of Shapleigh; also survived by a niece "Buddy" of Anchorage, Alaska.A memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday March 28, 2003 at Heald Funeral Home 580 Main Street, Springvale.
