Mildred E. Griffin, 89, of Route 109, Shapleigh, died December 29, 2003 at Goodall Hospital, following a brief illness.She was born September 18, 1914, in Emery Mills, a daughter of Harry and Annie (Kenney) Griffin. Being one of seven children, Miss Griffin was independent, hardworking and often the caretaker of her siblings. For over forty years, she owned and operated Griffin Variety on Route 109. She loved to cook, and will be remembered by "locals" for the darn good hamburgers and coconut cream pie she served at her lunch counter.Mildred was a "homebody," enjoying crocheting and watching TV wrestling and "The Price is Right." She was fond of outings to Wells Beach, the 9B Flower Ranch and Fryeburg Fair.Miss Griffin was predeceased by five siblings, Jessie, Elmer, Mary, John, and Virgil.She is survived by a sister, Hazel Maynard of Biddeford; two nieces, Caroline Furber and her husband, David of Laconia, NH and Gloria Varney and her husband Roland of Springvale; a nephew, William Maynard and his wife, Delores of Sanford; four grandnieces; three grandnephews; four great-grandnieces and one great-grandnephew. A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, Jan 2nd. At 11:00 AMat the Heald Funeral Home, 580 Main St. Springvale with Rev. Kenneth Keating, officiating. Family and friends may call from 10 AM until the hour of the service.
