Michael G. Whitten

It is with sadness that we announce the passing of our son and grandson on November 9, 2020. Michael G. Whitten was born in Sanford on September 24, 1990 to the parents of Michael E. Whitten and Lisa Ross. Throughout his short life Michael had lived in Sanford, Greenville and Waterboro. However, it was with his grandparents Ralph and Irene that he always enjoyed spending time, either at their house or at their camp at Buganut Lake. Michael enjoyed fishing, snowmobiling and just about all outdoor activities, especially when his grandfather was with him. In the last year Michael was apprenticing with his grandfather learning about the plumbing and heating trade. He hoped to follow in his grandfather's steps. Michael also enjoyed working on cars with his father.Anyone who knew Michael would know that he had a big heart and was there for everyone who knew him. His smile would light up any room. In the last year and a half Michael had been involved in the substance abuse recovery community as a member of the Shaker Hill AA Group in Alfred. He had received his one year medallion in May 2020. He was also an assistant manager at the Journey Recovery House in Sanford.Michael suffered with addiction that unfortunately took his life. We are devastated about our loss and suffer with the pain he endured throughout his life. He is predeceased by his step mother June Whitten.He is survived by his Dad Michael and his wife Christine, of Greenville, his mom Lisa Ross of Sanford, his Grandparents Ralph and Irene Sprague of Sanford, his children Sean, Joel, Trey and Chloe, his brother Daymon Mallory, and his step brothers Corey and Ryan.A celebration of life will held at a later date.
