Michael Long

Michael Long Jr., 73, of Sanford, died peacefully Friday, July 29, 2011 after a long and courageous battle with cancer.Born July 11, 1938 in North Quincy, Mass., Michael was the son of the late Michael and Mary (Joyce) Long of North Quincy, Mass. Michael graduated from Boston College in 1961. He married Beatrice Charette of Sanford in 1964, and together they raised four children. Over the years they lived in New York, Virginia, and New Hampshire. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Beatrice (Charette) Long, of Sanford; two sons Stephen M. Long of Laconia, New Hampshire, and David J. Long of St. Petersburg, Florida, two daughters, Kathleen (Long) Gatzogiannis and son-in-law Foto Gatzogiannis of Wells, Michelle Long and son-in law Paul Hansen of Portsmouth, NH, six grandchildren, Demitrios, Alec, and Zoe Gatzogiannis of Wells, Rowan Long of St. Petersburg, Florida, and Nuala and Oskar Hansen of Portsmouth, NH, two brothers, Francis Long and his wife Jeanette of Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, and John Long and his wife Mireya of Arlington, Virginia, a sister, Mary (Long) LaFlamme of North Quincy, Mass., and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Jeremiah Long of Bellevue, Washington. Visiting hours will be held from 5-7 pm on Tuesday, August 9th at Carll-Heald & Black Funeral Home, 580 Main Street in Springvale. The funeral Mass will be at 11:00 am on Wednesday, August 10 at St. Therese of lisieux Parish, Holy Family Church, 66 North Avenue in Sanford.
