Michael D. Legere, 67, of Sanford, died peacefully at his home on Tuesday, June 21, 2022 with his family by his side. Michael was born on March 19, 1955 to Gerard and Rita (Guillemette) Legere in Sanford where he grew up and attended local schools. In 1974 he married Sandra Austin and together they shared 48 years of marriage and raised two children. During his working life he was employed for many years at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard where he worked until his retirement in 2016. Michael enjoyed hunting, fishing and doing pretty much anything that involved the outdoors. He was an outgoing man who was able to make friends and find someone to talk to no matter where he was. He had been a member of the Lafayette Social Club. He will be remembered as a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather and will be dearly missed by all of his family and friends. Surviving are his wife, Sandra Legere of Sanford; two children, Erin and Nathan Legere, both of Sanford; two grandchildren, Alex Guilbault and Codie Deering; three great-grandchildren and two siblings, Steve Legere of Mesa, Arizona and Ron Legere of Limerick. At Michael's request, arrangements will be private. The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff of Hospice of Southern Maine for the care and compassion shown to Michael and his family during his period of declining health. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider sending a memorial contribution to the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House, c/o Hospice of Southern Maine 390 US Route One, Scarborough, Maine 04074. Arrangements are under the direction of Black Funeral Homes and Cremation Service, Sanford-Springvale.
