Michael Dennis Dawalga

Michael Dennis Dawalga Sr., 74, of Sanford, Maine, passed away on July 21, 2026, following a sudden diagnosis of cancer.

Born on September 18, 1951, in Nashua, New Hampshire, Michael was the son of Henry and Priscilla Dawalga. He grew up in Hudson, New Hampshire, where he formed the foundation of the values he carried throughout his life — kindness, positivity, and an unwavering devotion to family.

Michael graduated from and played basketball for the Ed Williams School of Broadcasting. He began his early career reporting auto racing results on a local radio station, combining his love of motorsports with his natural talent for communication. He later dedicated 36 years of service to Pratt & Whitney, where he was known for his strong work ethic, reliability, and good nature. Above all, he was a dependable provider — always ensuring his loved ones were cared for and supported.

A man who was always happy and positive, Michael put others before himself in every aspect of life. His family was his life, and he embraced his roles as a husband, father, and “Papa” with deep love and joy. He and his beloved wife, Susan Dawalga, were married for almost 53 years, building a life together filled with laughter, devotion, and shared memories.

He cherished relaxing in his recliner with his auto racing paper almost as much as attending live racing events. Michael was a loyal fan of New England sports teams and treasured family barbecues, time spent on the deck, and summer days around the swimming pool. He was known throughout the neighborhood for his beautiful outdoor Christmas decorations, which brought joy to everyone who passed by. He loved to laugh — especially with his family — and found comfort and humor in classic television shows like The Andy Griffith Show and The Honeymooners. His gentle spirit, good nature, and warm presence made him someone people were naturally drawn to.

Michael is survived by his loving wife, Susan Dawalga; his children Amy Saindon and her husband Norman, Michael Dawalga Jr. and his wife Renee, and Eric Dawalga and his fiancée Candace Godfrey. He leaves behind his beloved grandchildren Colby Gary, Emily Gary, Jacob Remillard, Cassidy Saindon, and Carissa Saindon. He is also survived by his siblings Denis Dawalga, Christine Rountree, and Mark Dawalga; and by his brother‑in‑law Paul Legere and his wife Diana Legere.

A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, July 29 at 10:00 a.m. at Saint Thérèse of Lisieux Parish, Holy Family Church located at 66 North Ave, Sanford, Maine 04073. A luncheon will follow from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Sanford Elks Lodge, 13 Elm Street, Sanford, Maine, and all are welcome to join in remembering and celebrating Michael’s life.

Michael’s legacy is one of love, laughter, and unwavering positivity — but above all, his most important legacy is the family he loved so much. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
