Melvin S. Brackett

Shapleigh, MaineMelvin S. Brackett, 86, of Shapleigh, Maine, died July 3, 2002 at The Goodall Hospital, Sanford.He was born in Waterboro, Maine on June 17, 1916, he was the son of David C. and Amy G. (Tebbetts) Brackett and was a graduate of Waterboro High School.Mr. Brackett was a carpenter by trade and through his working years he was employed by the leather mill in Waterboro, then working for the Goodall-Sanford Mills. He also worked in Wells and Dover as a carpenter. Mr. Brackett then opened his own carpentry business in 1956 until 1977. He then furthered his career at Brackett's Carpentry Shop from 1977 up until two years ago.Mr. Brackett was a 3rd degree Member of The Preble Masonic Lodge in Sanford, and was a member of The First Baptist Church of Sanford. Mr. Brackett was also a member of The Province Lake Golf Club.He enjoyed hunting, fishing, reading, and was an avid golfer.He is survived by his wife Frances Cofran Brackett of Shapleigh, Maine; daughters Ellen B. Leaf, D.D.S. of San Mateo, CA., and Stella B. Andrews and her husband Victor of Portland, Maine; a sister Ellen Thiel and her husband James of Henrietta, Texas; he is also survived by grandchildren Lisa Nichols of Waterboro, Maine and Douglas Simpson of Portland, Maine, 3 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.He was predeceased by his first wife Germaine Tanguay Brackett who died in 1956. Relatives and friends may call on Thursday from 2:00 PM- 4:00PM & 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM @ Heald Funeral Home 580 Main Street, Springvale, Maine, where a funeral will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday. If desired, donations may be made in his memory to the local charity of one's choice.
