Melville "Bud" Knight, Jr. 80, lifelong resident of East Waterboro, died February 5, 2005 at the Sanford HealthCare Facility in Sanford.He was born January 2, 1925 at home in East Waterboro a son of Melville B. and Ruth (Wakefield) Knight and attended local schools. As a young boy, he loved being around the Wakefield Farm and playing baseball. He was a graduate of Bryant & Stratton Business College and studied music at New England Conservatory of Music, both in Boston. Melville married Dorothy Irene Johnson on Valentine's Day in 1971. Mr. Knight worked in the office for W. L. Blake in Portland for many years. Mr. Knight was a devout member of the East Waterboro Free Baptist Church. An accomplished gospel singer, He sang for many years with the Revelaires Gospel Quartet in the surrounding churches and recorded several records. Mr. Knight was deacon and choir director for his church. A homebody at heart, his home was surrounded with friends and his menagerie of dogs. Special companions were his dogs, Major, a German Shepard, Trucker, a Black Lab and Dusty, his Springer Spaniel. An antique lover, he collected antique cars and was a fan of the Boston Red Sox and Ted Williams. A loving and devoted father, he raised his son, Melville III, "Buddy" since he was a two year old. They were not only father and son, but also best friends. He instilled a love of the church to his son, seeing the good in people, and a desire to work hard and to treat people fairly.Family members also include his son, Melville Knight, III of East Waterboro and two sisters, Delma (Knight) Smith and Arolyn (Knight) Roberts both of East Waterboro. He was also predeceased by the love of his life, his wife, Dorothy Irene (Johnson) Knight in 1974 and by two sisters, June (Knight) Ramsell and Marjorie (Knight) Johnson.His son, Melville III shared, "The above words can not begin to describe the type of person my Dad was..." Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, February 9, 2005 at 2 p.m. at the East Waterboro Free Baptist Church with Rev. Charles Storey, officiating. Family and friends may visit with the family from 1 p.m. until the hour of service.With his lifelong love of music and singing, memorial donations may be made to the New Hymnals Fund, East Waterboro Free Baptist Church, P.O.
