Maxine F. Peightal

Maxine F. Peightal, 85, of East Shore Road, died May 23, 2004, at her daughter's home in Portland after a lengthy illness. Throughout her illness, she maintained her love of life and family, her warmth and generosity and her strength and determination of spirit.She was born in North Waterboro, a daughter of Elmer and Martha (Pinkham) Foss and attended schools there. She then moved to Portland and graduated from Portland High School in 1935. She graduated from Beacom College, Wilmington, Delaware in 1939. Following graduation, she performed estate work at the Canal Bank in Portland. Maxine married Benjamin W. Peightal of Portland in 1947. She was a devoted wife during their 17 years of marriage. They lived in Milwaukee, Wisconsin for several years while Ben attended Engineering School and they then settled in Wilmington, Delaware where he worked for the E.I. DuPont de Nemours Company. She worked at financial institutions in Milwaukee and Wilmington prior to the birth of her daughter. She left the work force in 1952 to devote herself to motherhood. Following Mr. Peightal's death in 1965, she was employed by Dupont in Wilmington, Delaware as an executive secretary for 16 years. Mrs. Peightal retired from Dupont in 1982 and returned to her hometown of Waterboro for her retirement. She loved her home on Little Ossipee Lake in East Waterboro and also enjoyed traveling extensively with her daughter.Her daughter, Patricia M. Peightal, and her sister, Avis L. Foss, both of Portland, Maine, survive her. Leonard Wollaston, her longtime companion, predeceased her in January 2004.A graveside service will be held on Thursday, May 27th. At 2 p.m. at Highland Cemetery Annex, Limerick with Rev. Susan Kingman, officiating.Friends and family who want to visit with her prior to the service may do so from 10 a.m. until Noon on May 27th. At the Heald Funeral Home, 580 Main Street, Springvale. In lieu of flowers, donations in Mrs. Peightal's memory may be made to the Hospice Program of Home Health Visiting Nurses of Southern Maine, 901 Washington Avenue, Portland, ME 04103..
