Maxine M. Crouch, 78, of Kittery, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 3, 2023, at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough. Maxine was born on January 8, 1946, to the late Kathleen and Allinson Bubar in Waterville. She grew up in the community of Kittery and attended locals schools graduating from Traip Academy. Maxine pursued her education later in life, earning a Master's Degree in Art Therapy from the University of Southern Maine. Over the years she was employed at various places, from her early days at Sylvania to her fulfilling role as an art therapist. She was a cashier the A&P in Portsmouth for several years, and for a time, she worked as a waitress. She and her husband John lived in Springvale for many years and then in Shapleigh on Mousam Lake and for the last few years has resided in Wells. She was a dedicated member of the Acton Congregational Church in Acton and found where she found comfort in her faith. Some of her fondest memories were made at the family camp on Lake Ebeemee, where there was much laughter and making memories. One of her favorite memories was her trip to Mexico to visit her cousin Bill and his wife Pat. Maxine was also a very proud member of the General Society of Mayflower Descendants and enjoyed searching for and obtaining documents about her heritage. A true artist at heart, Maxine's talent shone brightest through her artwork. With colored pencils as her medium of choice, she breathed life into portraits of animals, birds, dogs, and people, capturing the essence of each subject with skill and love. Her mastery earned her the esteemed Best in Show at the Acton Fair, a testament to her artistic prowess. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 38 years, John Crouch, her son Stephen E. Poole, her sister Irene Norton, and her great-nephew Cameron Cooley. Her legacy lives on through her daughter Kelly Poole of South Berwick, grandchildren Kaitlyn Nadeau, Lindsay Pratt and her husband Tyler of Somersworth, Mallory Nadeau and her partner PJ Hemmer of New York City, Brenda Kessler and her husband Alex of Portland, James Poole and his wife Rachel Xavier of Meredith and their son Cohen Munster, NH, her brother Allen Bubar of AZ, daughter-in-law Cindy Littlefield Poole of South Berwick, many nieces, nephews, cousins, and of course, her beloved dog Angel. Maxine's spirit of creativity, love, and resilience will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know her. Services for Maxine will be held at a later date.
