Maurice A. "Moe" Veilleux, 82, of Springvale, a longtime resident of Route 4 in Sanford, died December 27 at the Goodall Hospital in Sanford after a brief illness.He was born in Somersworth, NH on April 9, 1929, the son of Omer and Delia (Dubois) Veilleux and attended Somersworth schools.Moe was employed for many years in the shoe manufacturing industry, most recently as a foreman at the former Corey Shoe in Sanford. After that plant closed, he worked for a time as a carpenter and then for several years as a custodian with the Sanford school system at Edison School and the Sanford Junior High School, retiring 20 years ago.Moe was a member and Past Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus council in Sanford. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus 4th Degree Assembly of Sanford-Springvale.He was a communicant of Holy Family Church.In his retirement, Moe enjoyed vegetable gardening and woodworking. He was very proud of the fact that he built the family home on Route 4 where they resided for some 40 years. In his younger days, he enjoyed square dancing.A man of few words, family members recalled that even with his quiet ways, he was very sociable with a sense of humor. He was a good example to them of a good and honest man who provided well for his family. However, he wasn't beyond showing up at home unannounced with some critter be it a puppy, birds or even pigs. He also took playing cards very seriously, only playing to win. Moe was also an avid Red Sox fan.His son, Daniel Veilleux, died in 2008.Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Louise (Marcotte) Veilleux of Springvale, son Gary Veilleux and his wife Rita of Sanford, daughter Pauline Provencher and her husband David of Sanford, son Michael Veilleux and his wife Michelle of Springvale, brother Lionel Veilleux and his wife Helen of Somersworth, NH, 9 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.Relatives and friends are invited to call on Saturday at 10:00 AM at the Carll-Heald & Black Funeral Home, 580 Main Street, Springvale. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 11:00 AM at the Holy Family Church of St. Therse of Lisieux Parish, 66 North Avenue, Sanford. A luncheon will follow it the St. Ignatius Parish Hall on Riverside Avenue in Sanford. Burial will be in St. Ignatius Cemetery in Sanford.Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider the American Lung Association, 122 State Street, Augusta, ME 04330.Arrangements are under the direction of the Carll-Heald & Black Funeral Home, 580 Main Street, Springvale.
