Maurice P. Reed

Maurice P. Reed, Sr., 93, of Maplewood, Maine, passed away on Sunday March 19, 2006 after a brief illness at his daughter's home in West Newfield. He was born on January 1, 1913 in Effingham, NH, a son of Austin and Gertrude (Smith) Reed. He attended Doe School in West Parsonsfield.He spent 3 years in the Civil Conservation Corp. where he nearly lost a leg, spending 9 months at Fort Williams Hospital in South Portland. He met his wife, Sarah MacDonald while peddling fish with Walter Smith. On September 14, 1939 they were married. He worked at various sawmills, Cyanamid in Sanford, Frankson Furniture Factory in Ossippee, NH, and for Richard Smith of West Parsonsfield. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, working in the woods and tradingHe is predeceased by his wife, Sarah who passed away in 1992, one son, James Reed in 1978. He is survived by one daughter, Eileen Calnan of West Newfield, two sons, Roger Reed of Alfred, and Maurice Reed Jr., of Sanford., 14 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.Contributions in his memory may be made to the Newfield Fire or Newfield Rescue PO Box 170 West Newfield, Maine 04095.Arrangements are under the direction of the Carll-Heald & Black Funeral Home, 580 Main Street Springvale, Maine.Condolences may be expressed at the tab at left.
