Maurice J. Lahue, 89, of Sanford and East Lebanon, Maine, passed away on Sunday, April 3, 2011, at the Maine Veterans Home in Scarborough, ME, after an extended illness. He was born on August 17, 1921 in Highgate Center, VT, a son of the late Walter S. and Katherine (Atkins) Lahue.After graduation from high school, he served in the U.S. Army before and during WWII, participating in the allied landings in North Africa, Sicily and Normandy. He was awarded a bronze star and oak leaf cluster for his actions in Sicily.After the war, he attended and graduated from Middlebury College. He married Theresa Cousino on July 25, 1949 in Bristol, VT. He eventually went to work for American Cyanamid in Connecticut. He moved to Sanford in 1962 and continued to work for the company (later Cyro Industries) until he retired in 1988 after 35 years with the company.Maurice was known for his sense of humor, his love of sports, especially baseball, and his excellent carpentry skills.He is predeceased by his parents, his brother, Floyd Lahue and his wife, and his sister, Marion Lahue and her husband.Maurice is survived by his wife, Theresa Lahue of Sanford, his daughters, Anne Lahue, Sheryl Reynolds and her husband, Michael, and Catherine Jourdain, all of Sanford, his sons, James Lahue of Texas and Philip Lahue and his wife, Carolyn of New York, and his grandchildren, Hollie, Scott, Samantha, Jessica and Michelle.Burial will take place at the Southern Maine Veterans Cemetery in Springvale at a later date.Arrangements are under the direction of the Lafrance-Lambert & Black Funeral Home, 29 Winter Street, Sanford.Condolences for the family may be expressed at the Condolences tab at left.
