Maryellen Eaton Wood, 94, of York, Maine died February 6, 2006 at Sentry Hill in York Harbor. Maryellen was born in York, March 11, 1911, the daughter of James and Mary Eaton. A lifelong resident, she was the sole surviving member of the York High School class of 1929. Maryellen and her husband, George, owned and operated Camp Eaton Oceanside Camping in York Harbor from 1933 to 1970. Her parents founded the campground in 1923.George and Maryellen lovingly restored the General John Harmon House, a York Village historic landmark. She enjoyed traveling in Europe, Bahamas, Bermuda, and Hawaii. Her many hobbies included rug hooking, stenciling, needlepoint, and antique collecting and gardening. Maryellen was a member of the Women's League of York, The Old York Garden club, the York Hospital Guild, The Old York Historical Society, York Land Trust, Trinity Church and St. George's Episcopal Church.She was predeceased by her husband, George A. Wood, and her grandson, Kenneth Wood Wagner. She is survived by her daughter, Jane Wood Wagner, and husband Burton; grandchildren, Peter T. Wagner and his wife Kathryn, Pamela W. Nickless and her husband, Gary; great grandchildren, Erin, Molly and Seth Wagner, Brian and Sean Nickless, dear friends Paula and Jim Williams, those who visited her frequently at Sentry Hill, and her beloved cats, Mimi and Gigi.A memorial service will be held in the spring.Memorial contributions can be made to St. George's Episcopal church, PO Box 364, York Harbor, ME 03911 or Trinity Church c/o Henry Brooks, PO Box 113 York harbor, ME 03911.Arrangements are under the direction of the Carll-Heald & Black Funeral Home 580 Main Street in Springvale.Condolences may be expressed at tab at left.
