Mary MathewsSpringvale, MaineMary Mathews, 91, of Springvale, died June 16, 2002 at The Newton Center, Sanford, Maine.She was born in Springvale, Maine on October 10, 1910, she was the daughter of Charles and Joan (Augustinos) Kostis and attended local schools.During WWII, she worked for the war effort in New York City, and moved here at the end of the war. In the mid 40's she worked for The Town Grill Restaurant, and also worked with her first husband at their landscaping-nursery business in Springvale.She has worked for The Ocean House Restaurant, Mrs. B's in Ogunquit for over 20 years, and most recently as assistant librarian for the Willard School. Mrs. Mathews loved cats, she would feed and shelter many that were homeless.She is survived by her sister Diana Bourlessas of Sanford, her niece Joan Bourlessas of Sanford and several cousins. She was predeceased by her sister Georgiana Markos who died in 1985.Graveside services will be held privately.
