Mary F. Marr, 98, of Sanford died on Monday, November 22, 2010 at Goodall Hospital in Sanford.Mrs. Marr was born in Worcester, Massachusetts on October 31, 1912. She grew up in Gloucester, MA where she attended local schools. When she was in her 20s she married Herman Marr and together they raised four children.While Mrs. Marr's children were growing up she stayed home to take care of them. She was a loving and devoted mother who always put the needs of her family first. She enjoyed sewing and used to make clothes for her children. She was also a wonderful cook and took pride in preparing wonderful meals for her family. After her children were grown, Mrs. Marr decided that she would like to go to work. At the age of 50 she got her driver's license and enrolled in nursing school. After finishing nursing school she worked as a private care nurse, which she continued to do until she turned 80. She moved to Maine ten years ago so that she would be closer to family. Mrs. Marr attended St. Therse of Lisieux Parish, St. Ignatius Church in Sanford. She will be remembered as a kind and loving woman and will be dearly missed by her family and friends.Mrs. Marr was predeceased by a son, Tommy Marr.Surviving are three children, Denise Atwood of Wellfleet, MA, Herman Marr Jr. of Sanford, and Peter Marr and his wife Dawn of Wells; 14 grandchildren, Tanya Sears, Jason Marr, Holly Trunzo, Kimberly Schmitz, Robin, Kelley, Tommy Marr Jr., Brenda Fialkowski, Rhonda Marr, Lynette Davis, Tammy Davis, Laureen, Danny Davis and Tommy Davis and several great grandchildren.Services for Mrs. Marr are private.Arrangements are under the direction of Carll-Heald & Black Funeral Home in Springvale.Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider the American Cancer Society, New England Division, 1 Bowdoin Mill Island Suite 300, Topsham, ME 04086.To leave the family a message of condolence, please visit www.blackfuneralhomes.com.
