Mary R. Garland, of Ocala, FL and formerly of Alfred, went into the arms of Jesus on June 1, just three weeks after being diagnosed with cancer. Her son Andrew and her sister Beth were by her side.She was born on October 15, 1960 to Mary H. Garland of Alfred and Andy Garland of Florida. She was a 1978 graduate of Massabesic High School. She furthered her education in travel and tourism and then opened her own travel agency in Lincoln, NH. She later purchased a farm in Berwick where she operated a horse drawn carriage business in Kennebunkport.In the 1990's she moved to Florida and created Ocala Carriage and Tours, which became a popular tourist attraction. Her vivacious personality brought joy to everyone who met her. She said her mission in life was to make people happy by giving them a great time. Her motto was "We're not here for a long time, but we are here for a good time!"Survivors include a son Andrew, his wife Heather and their children Logan and Mason, a sister Beth Kennett and her husband Bob of Vermont, her mother of Alfred and her father of Florida.A memorial service will be held on Thursday, July 19 at 1:00 PM at the Carll-Heald & Black Funeral Home, 580 Main Street, Springvale. A reception will follow at the Heald Family Center, 574 Main Street, Springvale. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery in Alfred.Arrangements are under the direction of the Carll-Heald & Black Funeral Home, 580 Main Street, Springvale.
