Mary A. Crowley

Mary A. Crowley, 88, of Springvale, Maine, died Sunday January 6, 2002 at The Goodall Hospital in Sanford.Born on July 12, 1913 in Springvale Maine, she was the daughter of John Michael and Marie Antoinette Tetreault Bernier and was a 1930 graduate of Sanford High School. She then continued her education at Misericordia School of Nursing , New York, NY., graduating in 1934.She worked as a private duty nurse from 1934-1941. She then entered the United States Army serving from 1941-1947. While serving during WWII she spent three years in North Africa and Italy. She served in The 64th General Hospital division, leaving with the rank of Captain. After returning to Springvale, she worked as a registered nurse for The H.D. Goodall Hospital retiring after more than 20 years of service.She is survived by her son Jim Crowley of Acton, Maine; her daughter Michelle Crowley Bruns of Springvale, Maine, her four granddaughters and several nieces and nephews.Mrs. Crowley was predeceased by her husband Leonard W. Crowley who died in 1995.A chapel service will be held at 1:00 PM on Wednesday at The Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Civic Center Drive, Augusta, Maine.
