Marion A. Smith

Marion A. Smith, 89, of Lyman, died on Friday, January 7, 2011 at St. Andre's Health Care Facility in Biddeford.Marion was born in Lyman on December 7, 1921 to Eugene and Addie (Littlefield) Smith and attended local schools, graduating from Kennebunk High School. Following high school she attended Northeast Business School. After finishing school, Marion went to work at the army exchange in South Portland where she met her future husband, John Smith. They were married in 1945 and spent the next 54 years together until his death in 1999. She worked as a bookkeeper at several local businesses during her life and retired from the Baker Company in Sanford. Marion enjoyed crocheting, knitting and sewing. She was a kind and caring woman and always had a warm spot in her heart for children and her pets. She loved being around people. She enjoyed shopping, going out to eat and entertaining guests at her home. She liked cooking for people and always made it a point to see that any guest she received at her home left with a full stomach. Marion will be remembered as a kind and loving woman and will be dearly missed by her family and friends.Marion was predeceased by her parents, her husband, by her brother, Alfred L. Smith I and by a nephew, Alfred L. Smith II.Surviving are her nephew's wife, Hallie Smith of Richmond, VA; a grand niece, Allison Smith Heverin and her husband Timothy of Chicago, IL; a grand nephew, Alfred L. Smith III of Richmond, VA; several great-grand nieces and nephews and many close friends.Visitation will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 AM with a funeral service being held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, January 12th at the Carll-Heald & Black Funeral Home, 580 Main Street in Springvale. Interment will take place in the spring at Evergreen Cemetery in Alfred.
