Marie passed away early Friday October 7, 2005; at the age of 82 and after an extended nursing stay at the D'Youville Senior Care in Lowell, MA. Marie was born in Sanford, Maine, the second oldest daughter of Oscar and Dorothy Normand, long time residents of Springvale, Maine. She currently lived in North Chelmsford, a suburb of Lowell, MA and also summered in Shapleigh, ME where she enjoyed her vacation cottage on Square Pond. Married for 61 years, she is survived by husband Arthur Vaccaro, daughter Pamela Jane (O'Brien), son Stephen Joseph, and daughter Linda Marie. Her surviving grandchildren are Sean Joseph Barry, Kevin Lee Barry, Kristin Marie Vaccaro, Stephen Joseph Jr. Vaccaro, and Stephanie Laura Hom Vaccaro. Also survived by her brother Eugene Normand and preceded in death by her sister, Kathleen L. (Huard) and brother, Robert L. Normand.Marie was a member of the Sanford High School "Class of 1942" and excelled with highest honors as Valedictorian of her class. Marie and Arthur were married May 28, 1944 while Arthur was still serving as a Staff Sergeant in Louisiana for the US Army Air Corps during WW 2 from 1942-1945.Marie continued to live in Springvale/Sanford, Maine until shortly after Arthur returned from the war and was discharged. However they soon relocated to Malden, MA and lived there for 20 years. Then a new job position for her husband, Arthur, afforded them the opportunity to relocate to Harrisburg, PA. After residing there for one long year, and greatly missing being close to children, friends and relatives as well as Maine and Massachusetts, her husband was able to transfer back and live out their marriage in the present home in North Chelmsford, MA. Marie was a devoted wife, mother and sister and endured more than her share of "crosses to bear". She constantly displayed outstanding fairness, great judgment and gave of herself unselfishly. She will be greatly missed.A funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, October 13 at 11:00 AM at Saint Ignatius Church, Sanford, ME.Visitation will be held between 2:00-4:00 PM and 6:00-8:00 PM on Wednesday, October 12 at Lafrance-Lambert & Black Funeral Home, 29 Winter St., Sanford, MERefreshments will follow the service.
