Mrs. Marian Holmes, 83, of Pittsfield, MA. died Tuesday, February 17, 2004 at Mount Greylock Extended Care Facility where has resided for the past two years. Prior to living in Pittsfield, she resided in Maine for 30 years and in Cheshire MA for 25 years. Mrs. Holmes was born on May 15, 1920 in Philadelphia, PA to the late Thomas and Irene English Marshall. She was a graduate of Overbrook High School and Women's Homeopathic Hospital School of Nursing, both in PA. Mrs. Holmes, a registered nurse did private duty nursing at the former Plunkett Hospital in Adams, MA. While living in Cheshire she was a member of the Cheshire Baptist Church and active in the Women's League of the church, taught Sunday school and read the children's story every Sunday. She was a member of the Cheshire Women's Club.She leaves her husband, Rev. Chandler M.Holmes, former pastor of the Cheshire Baptist Church from 1945 to 1969, they were married on August 25, 1943. Mrs. Holmes belonged to the No. Waterboro Community Baptist Church in Waterboro, Maine for 30 years. Mrs. Holmes participated as a Hospice Worker and at the Good Neighbor - a supplier of clothing to those in need. Survivors include her husband, Rev. Chandler M. Holmes of Pittsfield, MA; three daughters, Susan Brady and her husband Bruce of Wilbraham, MA. Leslie LaPlante and her husband Robert of Hinsdale, MA. And Carolyn Gawron and her husband Stanley of Scarborough, ME, 5 Grandchildren, 9 Great Grandchildren and 23 Nieces and Nephews. She was predeceased by two brothers, Thomas Marshall and Edwin Marshall and by two sisters, Beatrice Marshall and Loretta David. Mrs. Holmes services will be held Friday, February 20, 2004 at the First Baptist Church of Cheshire, MA. At 2:00 P.M. preceded by one hour of visitation. Local services will be held on Monday, February 23rd. At the North Waterboro Community Baptist Church at 2 pm with Rev. Henry Bock, officiating. A time of visitation will be held from 1 pm until the hour of the service. Burial will take place at Elder Gray Cemetery in North Waterboro, ME. In the spring. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the American Heart Association or the American Diabetes Association, both in care of the Dery-Cheshier Funeral Home, 121 North State Road, Cheshire, MA. 01225.
