SOUTH PORTLAND - Margaret Mary Page, 87, of South Portland, widow of Eugene H. Page, passed away on January 30th, 2013 at the South Portland Nursing Home from the effects of Parkinson's disease. Margaret was born on Jan 10th, 1926 in Portland a daughter of Luke and Mary Skerritt Whalen. A lifelong resident of South Portland, she graduated with the South Portland High class of 1943. She earned a degree in bookkeeping from Portland Business College on a scholarship generously provided by the administration after the death of her parents. Margaret was left to care for her younger three siblings under the tutelage of her grandmother. Following graduation she worked for AP Grocers, Porteous, and the Roman Catholic Diocese of Portland Maine. Despite losing her parents and grandparents at a young age, her three siblings, and three of her four children Margaret kept her faith in God close to her heart. A communicant of Holy Cross Church in South Portland she was active in church affairs. She very much enjoyed her role in the church choir. Besides being a wife and mother, she was also a seamstress, tailor, baker, knitter, rug maker, and crocheter. Her knitted sweaters and crocheted doilies garnered many blue ribbons at the state fairs. Besides her parents and her husband of 57 years, she is pre-deceased by an elder sister Mary who died at three months, a sister Julia King of South Portland, brothers Charles of Brunswick and Joseph of Florida, sons Timothy E. and Richard L. and daughter Julienne all of South Portland. She is survived by her son Daniel C. and wife Regina M. of South Portland, nieces Martha Ridge also of South Portland, Maria Dewing of West Springfield VA, and Maureen Whalen of Portland, nephew Thomas Whalen and sister-in-law Mary Lydon Whalen, both of Brunswick, her grandchildren Gretchen Kamszik and husband Gary of Limington, Michele Boudreau and husband Pete of Buxton, Christine Stults and husband Steve of Portland, Meghan Buck and husband Edward of South Portland and Nicole Orcutt also of South Portland. She is also survived by eight great-grandchildren and a very special friend Patricia Davis of South Portland. The family would like to acknowledge and thank the residents and staff of the South Portland Nursing Home for the special attention, care and friendship that they brought to her past seven years. In particular, we would like to recognize Annette Pease and Kelly Parker who went above and beyond their job descriptions to ensure Margaret's comfort. We would also like to thank Southern Maine Hospice for managing her care so that the end was pain free. Relatives and friends are invited to attend visitation hours 2 to 4 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday at Conroy-Tully Crawford South Portland Chapel, 1024 Broadway, South Portland. Prayers will be recited 9:15 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral chapel followed by a 10:00 a.m. concelebrated Mass of Christian Burial at Holy Cross Church, corner of Broadway and Cottage Road, South Portland.
