Margaret Stone Hamilton

Margaret S. Hamilton, 100 years old, of Sanford, ME formerly of Shapleigh and Clinton, MA died early Sunday morning January 27, 2002 at the Sanford Healthcare Facility.Mrs. Hamilton was born on August 8, 1901 in Templeton, MA. She was the daughter of George and Mary (Leland) Stone. She was raised in Templeton and was a graduate of the Templeton H.S.For over 25 years Mrs. Hamilton volunteered as a Girl Scout council secretary. She was a 40-year member and past president of the Clinton, MA Woman's Club. While living in Clinton she attended the Clinton Congregational Church where she sang in the choir and was active in many church activities.Mrs. Hamilton was a very artistic lady. She enjoyed painting, sewing, and writing poetry, however her greatest love was that for music. As a youngster Margaret and her sisters sang in a quartet at various events when they were growing up. She was also a very devoted wife to her husband, the late John D. Hamilton who died in 1988.Her husband, and a son Leland B. Hamilton predecease her.Surviving is a daughter Elizabeth Fraser of Springvale, 5 grandchildren, and 6 great-grandchildren.A memorial service for Mrs. Hamilton will be held at the Sanford Unitarian Universalist Church at a time to be announced.Memorial contributions may be made to the Sanford Unitarian Universalist Church in Sanford, ME.
