Malcolm Harding Treadwell

Malcolm Harding Treadwell, 83, lifelong resident of Acton, died January 29, 2005 at Goodall Hospital in Sanford. He was born January 17, 1922 in Sanford a son of Ralph Neal Dow and Kate Gertrude (Mace) Treadwell and attended a one room school house on Fox Ridge and graduated from Lebanon Academy in Lebanon. Malcolm served in the United States Army as a big equipment mechanic during World War II in the Islands of the Pacific. Returning from active duty, Mr. Treadwell returned home to Acton and married Olive Marcia Mee, September 6, 1946. Since 1950, they made their home together on the South Acton Road.Mr. Treadwell worked many years at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard as a welder and retired in 1984. From an early age, Malcolm managed woodlots efficiently and was a member of the Sons of the Wilted Wallet and was a member of the Mousam Lake Grange, #467 for over 60 years. He enjoyed driving his tractor and teaching the kids how to drive out by the rabbit pens. He would say, "If you make it around the pen without hitting it, you were ready to drive on the roads." He could stack a woodpile without any holes and build a solid rock wall. Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Olive M.Treadwell of Acton; two sons, Mark Treadwell and wife, Patricia of Toledo, OH; Roy Treadwell and wife, Paulette of Acton; four daughters, Rhoby Treadwell of Lewiston; Agnes Beane of Westbrook; Malinda Hubbard and husband, Donald of Newfield; Hannah Phillips and husband, Dwayne of Acton; 15 grandchildren, Steven, Catherine, Matthew, Luke, Jacob, Rebecca, Nathan, Ryan, Sarah, Jeffrey, Angela, Bradley, Malcolm, Jedidiah and Abraham; two great grandchildren, Olivia and Jamie. One brother, Merle Treadwell of East Rochester, NH and one sister, Shirley Chick, of Rochester, NH. Also, many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, two brothers, Burton Charles Treadwell who died during World War II and Ralph Ezekiel Treadwell and his sister, Arlene( Treadwell) Leonard.A Memorial Gathering will be held Monday, January 31, 2005 at 6:30 pm until 8:30 pm at the Acton Town Hall.
