Majella L. Duchette

Majella L. Duchette, 88, of Sanford, died Friday, June 2, 2006 at Newton Center in Sanford.Majella was born in Tingwick, Quebec, on January 24, 1918 to Alphonse and Exella (Letourneau) Charette, the youngest of a very large family. She moved to Sanford when she was 4 years old and attended Holy Family School. She worked in the local shoe shops and at Aletta Dress Shop. She was a member of the Ladies of St. Anne and the Living Rosary. Mrs. Duchette was an excellent baker; people were particularly fond of the wonderful apple pies that she would bake. She also enjoyed growing and tending to her houseplants. Majella was a very quite and reserved person and was considered the caretaker of her family. She had a great love of children and particularly enjoyed her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be remembered as a kind and loving woman and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.Majella was predeceased by her husband, Wilfred Duchette in 1987.Surviving are four daughters, Anita Walls and her husband Douglas of Raymond, New Hampshire, Bertha Gerdreau and her husband Paul of Sanford, Claire Camire and her husband Robert of Acton and Diane Walls and her husband Wayne of Lyman; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; special nieces Madeleine Bucklin of Sanford, Claire Guillemette and her husband Tom of York and Louise Thibaudeau and her husband Danny of Milton, New Hampshire and several nieces and nephews.A period of visitation will take place on Tuesday, June 6, 2006 from 4:00 to 8:00 at Lafrance-Lambert & Black Funeral Home, located at 29 Winter Street in Sanford. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Holy Family Church in Sanford on Wednesday, June 7, 2006 at 11:00 AM. Interment will take place at St. Ignatius Cemetery in Sanford.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the Kidney Foundation of Maine, P.O. Box 1134, Portland, Maine 04104.
