M. Elizabeth Tilden
M. Elizabeth (French) Tilden, 89, of Sanford, formerly of Revere, MA, passed away very peacefully at her daughter's summer home surrounded by her loving family on Friday, June 3, 2011. She was born on October 6, 1921, in Newfoundland, Canada, a daughter of the late Edward and Blanche (Snow) French. She came to this country at a young age and raised in Revere, MA .For many years she was employed by the Credit Bureau. She was a much loved wife, mother, sister, grandmother and great grandmother. She was known as "Gram" to everyone and to her great grandchildren she was "G.G." She loved her family dearly and enjoyed their visits.Gram lived to play the Upwards Scrabble game with anyone who would be willing to play. She loved to win and would occasionally use Newfoundland words to cheat just a little.She enjoyed spending summers at the family camp and watching the loons from her chair on the porch.She is predeceased by her husband, Myron (Bill) Eugene Tilden; two sisters, Constance Mary Abrams and Elsie Veilleux, and two brothers, John and Donald French.She is survived by her daughters, Linda Leck and her husband, David and Barbara Dankos and her husband, Brian; her brothers, Edward and Elmer and their wives and children. She is also survived four grandchildren and seven great grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews. For many years she was lovingly cared for by Beverly Delano.A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, June 9th at 2PM at St. George's Episcopal Church, 3 Emerson Street, Sanford.Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider donations in her memory to the Maine State Library-Large Print Program, 64 State House Station, Augusta, Maine 04333-0064.
