Lynne was born on June 25, 1951, to Ward and Constance Hitchcock in St. John, New Brunswick, Canada. When she was young, the family moved to the U.S. and resided in Somerville, MA, and Rockland, MA, where she attended school and graduated from Rockland High School in 1969.
Lynne pursued her passion for nursing at the Melrose-Wakefield Hospital School of Nursing, graduating in 1972. She furthered her education, earning her bachelor’s degree from Northeastern University in Boston.
Lynne had an extensive and impactful nursing career, working at Boston City Hospital, Melrose-Wakefield Hospital, Hanover Hill Nursing Home, Hallmark Health as a visiting nurse and Massachusetts General Hospital. Upon retirement, Lynne continued to help others in many ways, including taking care of elders in their homes with Arcadia Home Care and volunteering at Southern Maine Healthcare and with the Lion’s Club. She truly had a servant’s heart and was always ready to help those who were overlooked or in need of attention.
The love and support that she gave came back to her in many ways during her life. She and her family always remembered with gratitude the love and support she received. She was known for her spontaneous sense of humor, her love of practical jokes, and her ability to make those around her laugh. Above all, Lynne loved her family. She spent as much time as she could with her grandsons, attending hockey games, having sleepovers and taking trips to Target.
Lynne’s passing was sudden and unexpected and her loss will be felt by all who knew and loved her.
She is predeceased by her parents, her brother, David Hitchcock, and a brother in law, Theodore Distaso.
Survivors include her beloved husband of 49 years William Mann of Shapleigh, her son Robert Mann and his wife Catherine of Acton, her treasured grandsons William and John Mann, her siblings Walter Hitchcock and his wife Janice of CA, Paul Hitchcock and his wife Stephanie of CA, Kathleen McDonough and her husband Jim of Kingston, MA, Beth DeLong and her husband Wayne of New Brunswick, Canada and Maureen Vail of New Brunswick, Canada, a sister in law Carroll Hitchcock of New Brunswick, Canada, a sister in law Sandra Distaso, of North Reading, MA and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A time of visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 16th from 7:30am to 9:30am at Carll-Heald & Black Funeral Home, 580 Main St., Springvale, Maine. A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00am at Saint Therese of Lisieux Catholic Church, 66 North Ave, Sanford, Maine, with a burial following at Highland Grove Cemetery in Shapleigh, Maine.

I am so incredibly sad to hear the news of Lynne’s passing. Our families went on many vacations together as kids so Lynne was more like family than just a friend. I send my condolences to Bill, Robert, Catie, and her grandbabies.
Kenny and I are so sorry for this sudden loss of your dear wife and mother
Praying you’ll find peace within your hearts knowing you will see her again one day.
To all Lynne’s dear Family and Friends,
My deepest sympathy goes out to you. Knowing the shock and sorrow her death brought up in me, gives me a small idea of how difficult this time is for you. I hope that as days and weeks go by, the memories of her joy in all of you, especially in William and John, soften in some small measure the blow her passing causes. Sending prayers from my heart to all of you. Linda
Generous, funny, no-nonsense, incredibly smart and empathic
So many things, but one thing I kept forgetting to tell her was Thank you for teaching the benefit of cold showers to reduce inflammation! Always a nurse…
Play with her grandkids, go for long drives to anywhere, helping others
Lynne gave from herself in many anonymous ways that must remain that way. Just know that Lynne has saved many lives and her life is truly an example of overcoming some difficult challenges but contributing so much more as a result!
