Lola M. Huntress, 76, of 54 Beaver Hill Road in Springvale, died on Wednesday August 23, 2006 at the Maine Medical Center in Portland, following a brief illness. She was born on August 12, 1930 in Newton, MA, a daughter of Alfred G. and Lola M. Mayo. She graduated from Newton High School in 1948.Lola was employed at Aletta Dress Shop in Springvale until it's closing. She drove school bus for the Sanford School District, and then went on to drive the transit bus for Community Actions of Sanford until her retirement in 1996.Lola enjoyed having family get togethers including cookouts, playing cards and board games. 1,000piece jigsaw puzzles were a great pastime for her. She enjoyed going to the Sanford Trafton Senior Center where she got together for good times with friends for meetings, games and trips.She is predeceased by her parents, her husband, Leslie H. Huntress, a brother in law, Walter Huntress and parents in law, Carl and Carlotta Huntress. She is survived by her eight children, James W. Huntress of Florida, Susan L. Roy of Sanford, Barbara A. Lewis of Lyman, Judith L. Huntress of Alfred, William C. Huntress of Florida, Thomas A Huntress of Springvale, Brenda L. Allen of North Waterboro, and Shirley M. Huntress of Sanford. She is also survived by her brother, James Mayo and his wife, Maralyn of Needham, MA. She was a proud grandmother of 16 grandchildren, and 6 (soon to be 8) great grandchildren, several brothers in law, sisters in law, nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.A gathering of family and friends will take place on Wednesday August 30th from 1 to 3pm and 5 to 7pm at Lola's home, 54 Beaver Hill Road in Springvale.Arrangements are under the direction of the Carll-Heald & Black Funeral Home, 580 Main Street in Springvale.Condolences may be expressed by using the "condolence" tab to the left.
