Lois S. Sargent, 77 years old, of Alfred, ME, and formerly of Ashburnham, MA, died Sunday, February 26, 2006 after a lengthy illness.Lois was born in Gardner, MA on January 20, 1929. She was the daughter of the late Clarence W. & Alice M. (Ayotte) Lashua. She was raised in Ashburnham, MA and attended Cushing Academy. Lois spent almost the entirety of her 77 years, raising her family and contributing as an active member to her community in Ashburnham before moving to Maine where she spent the last four years of her life. She is best remembered as proudly being married to her devoted husband Harold (Pat) for almost 57 years.Lois was fond of genealogy and honored to be the 12th direct descendent of Governor William Bradford, the first governor of Massachusetts. This lineage allowed her to become a member of the Mayflower Society, Daughter of the American Revolution and a Lady of the Grand Army of the Republic, Abraham Lincoln Circle #3. She also served as a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of both the V.F.W. Post 5509 and the American Legion Thomas Sweeney Post 0142. For over 20 years Lois was also the Veterans Services assistant to the Veterans Agent in Ashburnham, the chairwoman of the selective service, and volunteered with a local Head Start program.Family was a very important part of the life Lois led. She was a beautiful homemaker and cook, a loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister. Those closest to Lois best knew her as Lolo or Goomie and respected her for her strong will, sense of humor, and love of life. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends. Surviving Lois is her husband, Harold Sargent of Alfred, ME, a daughter, Deborah L. Landry and her husband Ricky of Springvale, ME, a son, Timothy H. Sargent and his wife Susan of Phillipston, MA, and four grandchildren, Kyle C.W. Landry, Jordan Landry, Quinn Sargent, and Patrick Sargent. Also surviving Lois are three sisters, Leone Gagne, Phyllis Amadon, Lynn Marlene Cochran, a brother Charles Lashua, and several nieces and nephews.At Lois's request, a memorial service will be held for her in Ashburnham, MA in April of 2006, later notice will be made.In lieu of flowers the family wishes memorial contributions be made to Camp Sunshine, 35 Arcadia Rd.
