Lloyd R. Monahan, 76, resident of Alfred since 1976 died Monday, November 10, 2003 at Goodall Hospital in Sanford.He was born in Island Falls, Maine the son of Charles E. and Cecelia (Harris) Monahan and raised and educated in Caribou, Maine. Lloyd worked in the potato fields in the "County" and often gave his Mom the money he earned to help with his siblings. At the age of 13, Lloyd went to Lawrence, Mass to join his older brothers and sisters working in the mills. Mr. Monahan served during WWII in the United States Navy and upon returning from active duty, began a long career as a house painter.Upon the death of his wife, Ruby (Dill) Monahan in 1976, Mr. Monahan moved his family to Alfred, Maine. He enjoyed tinkering with automobiles and was active in the recycling business. Mr. Monahan imparted his love of baseball by taking his kids to many games at Fenway to route for the Red Sox's. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and in his later years, going to the horse races. Survivors include his children: 5 Sons: Lloyd of Lawrence, MA; James, Richard and Edward all from Alfred, ME and David of Sanford, ME. 2 Daughters: Donna Kulagoski of Manchester, NH and Carol Belanger of Lawrence, MA. 13 Grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. Several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a daughter, Shirley Monahan in 1996 and by 13 siblings.A Graveside Service will be held Friday, November 14, 2003 at 11 AM at the Ridgewood Cemetery in No. Andover, Massachusetts.
