Resided in: Portland, Maine

Portland - Lillian Katherine Cremo, 99, daughter of the late Thomas and Evelyn (Caleb) Mulkern, went to Jesus on October 2, 2022. Lillian attended Portland schools and was in the U.S. Navy (Waves) stationed in Washington DC for two years. She was honorably discharged in May of 1946 and married Joseph R. Cremo on August 20, 1946, which is exactly what Lillian had predicted in 1940. They were married for 65 years. Her younger years were full of friends, gardening, sewing and dancing. She was an avid reader. Among favorite times with her husband were boating day trips, singing while he played his ukulele or guitar and watching a beautiful sunset. Her fondest memories were of Sunday afternoons playing the music they loved and singing together while listening to their favorites, Eddy Arnold and Patsy Cline. She always said she was born to be a housewife and her greatest joy was to be where her husband was and cooking for him. Lillian was a daily communicant of the 9AM Mass at St. Patrick's Church until her husband became ill. She was predeceased by her husband, Joseph R. Cremo; parents, Thomas and Evelyn Mulkern; her step-father, Joseph N. Fortier; brothers, Royal T. Mulkern and Charles A. Mulkern; and sister, Evelyn Joan Baker. She is survived by her sisters, Patricia W. Baker or Gorham, Janice C. McHale of Virginia; and several nieces and nephews. "I would especially like to thank Barbara Jean, my niece and care giver after my husband's death in 2011. Also, thank you to her husband. As I have written this myself, I would like to say any good I have done has been done through the guidance of the Holy Spirit. If I have hurt anyone in this lifetime, I apologize. May God Bless you all." - Lillian The family of Lillian would like to thank the staff at St. Joseph's Rehabilitation and Residence as well as Hospice of Southern Maine for the care they gave to Lillian. A period of visiting will be held on Friday, October 7, 2022, from 10:30AM-11:00AM at St. Pius X Church, 492 Ocean Avenue, Portland, immediately followed by an 11AM Mass of Christian Burial. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery, South Portland. Arrangements are under the direction of the Conroy-Tully Walker Funeral Home of Portland. 1. Aunt Lil was such a sweet, caring, thoughtful person with a wonderful sense of humor. I miss our phone calls. I am sad to lose Aunt Lil but glad that she is at peace now and is with Uncle Joe again. Connie in Virginia

  2. Condolences to the Cremo family. Lil has been a part of my life since I was a little boy back on Fox Street. Joe and Lil were good friends with my mom and dad and used to go out on the boat to have a few drinks. Good memories, good friends. Love you. Rest in peace.

  3. My heart is filled with happy moments I spent with Lil, my sister, my friend. Lil and and Joe treated my husband and myself to many wonderful trips around Maine when we drove up from Virginia. Lil and Joe, thanks for the memories! Jan

  4. To all the family I wish my deepest condolences 💐 Lillian was a beautiful person inside and out she will be in my heart ❤️ always . It was such an honor to care for her and become such a close friend . Love always Lillian. You are forever in my prayers

  5. I was welcomed into the Earley family and quickly learned how big it is! Uncle Joe and Aunt Lil were favorites around the table at Ma’s on Munjoy Hill, especially if Joe brought his ukelele. They were very kind to Steve and I and served as role models for true love.

  6. What a wonderful woman Aunt Lil was – her love for others (and of singing!) was contagious. I adored being at Ma Earley’s table with Lil and Joe many times; I’m blessed to have become part of this loving family. While our losses seem to be mounting, our support for one another is limitless. Love is all that matters. – Kathi Earley

  7. RIP Aunt Lil.You are with Uncle Joe again. All our love and fond and happy memories of you both with my children and grandchildren.❤❤❤❤Love ,Terry and Katie Earley

  8. Lillian was my sister’s godmother. We lost track of Lillian in the past year or so but as fate would have it, I googled Lillian Cremo to find her obituary the day it was published. Her dear godchild, my sister, passed away just 6 days after Lillian. What a beautiful thing to have Lillian welcoming Maria to heaven. Lillian (and Joe)
were loved by our whole family.
